PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily detect slag 5 which gets mixed in a molted metal 4a tapped out from a converter 1 into a ladle 8. SOLUTION: In a detecting device for detecting the slag 5 of getting mixed in the running molten metal 4a, in a process of tilting the converter 1 accommodating the molten metal 4 and tapping the molten metal out from a tapping opening 7 of the converter to the ladle located in a lower position, this detecting device comprises a blowing mechanism 12 for removing dust 11, which is generated from the molten metal 4a running from the converter 1 into the ladle 8 and the molten metal 4b in the ladle 8, by a wind power, an imaging device 9 for photographing an energy distribution of the running molten metal, in a state that the dust has removed by the blowing mechanism, and an image processing system 10 for determining an amount of the slag which gets mixed in the molten metal, from the energy distribution image obtained by the imaging device, by using difference of energy intensity between the molten metal and the slag.
