METHOD FOR PRODUCING 4-HYDROXYMETHYLQUINALDINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 4-hydroxymethylquinaldine useful as a medicinal intermediate, etc., from an industrially readily available tar fractionated quinaldine in good yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-hydroxymethylquinaldine is carried out as follows. The tar fractionated quinaldine is reacted with a mineral acid such as sulfuric acid to form a mineral acid salt, which is purified. The resultant mineral acid salt is then dissolved in water. Methanol and a radical producer such as ammonium sulfate and preferably further an alkaline species are added to the resultant solution and reacted therewith. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
