PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel control system for a cargo handling vehicle that can improve safety and operability by preventing an unintentional speed change. SOLUTION: The travel control system for a cargo handling vehicle has a step sensor for detecting whether an operator is on a step or not, a guard sensor for detecting whether guards are in a projecting position, and a travel condition sensor for detecting a travel condition of a vehicle body. A control unit determines whether mode switching is possible or not from a signal from each sensor, and only if determining that mode switching is possible, provides mode switching to control the vehicle travel.
