PURPOSE: A method for implementing an HPD(Hot Plug Detection) and a device thereof are provided to format a video data structure adapted to a display standard rapidly in a host device by reducing system loads of a display device and a host device. CONSTITUTION: An HPD signal is sensed(S200). An EDID(Extended Display Identification Data) is received and parsed through a DDC(Display Data Channel) communication protocol in accordance with the sensed HPD signal(S210). A corresponding commodity packet identifier is extracted and stored through the parsed EDID(S220). The storage state is maintained and variation of the HPD signal is checked(S230). If the HPD signal is changed, the corresponding commodity packet identifier of the HPD signal is extracted(S240-S250). In addition, it is checked whether the commodity packet identifier is identical with the commodity packet identifier stored in the stage(S220)(S260). If the commodity packet identifier is not identical with the commodity packet identifier stored in the stage(S220), the stored commodity packet identifier is updated by the commodity packet identifier extracted in the stage(S250)(S270).
