PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a battery against the memory effect in a cordless heating unit using a battery. SOLUTION: The unit comprises a burner 19 having a vaporizer 17 and a heater 18 for heating the vaporizer 17, air blowing means 25 driven by a DC motor 24, battery 26, resistance heater 32, and a DC power source 27. Power is applied by the battery 26 to the heater 32 and motor 24 and, when the battery 26 is discharged almost completely, it is recharged by the source 27. In a design having this discharge mode, the battery is protected against the memory effect when it is operated on this discharge mode after repetition of incomplete charge/ discharge cycles.
