PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous surface preparation agent for particularly improving the interlayer adhesion between a metallic material and a resin coating layer such as a film and a coating film, and for improving the corrosion resistance and solvent resistance of a metallic material or the like. SOLUTION: The aqueous surface preparation agent contains (A) at least one kind of chitosans selected from chitosan and chitosan derivatives, and (B) a metallic compound containing at least one kind of elements selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, Mo, W, Se, Ce, Fe, Cu, Zn, V and trivalent Cr.
