PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a burden in work on operators, and to enhance the operation rate. SOLUTION: This paper sheets handling device 1 has a feed part 11 for feeding a paper sheet, a taking-out roller 12 for taking out a banknote, a discrimination part 13 for discriminating a damage and an obverse/a reverse of the taken-out banknote, and four collective sealing devices 21, 22, 23, 24 for classifying and collecting the banknotes based on a discriminated result therein to be sealed for every 100 sheets of unit. When the sealing device 21 is trouble in a mode where the obverse banknotes are collected in the sealing devices 21, 22, and where the reverse banknotes are collected in the sealing devices 23, 24, the taking-out roller 12 is stopped in timing when the 97th of the banknote passes through the discrimination part 13, based on prediction that the 100 sheets of obverse banknotes are collected in the sealing device 22. When the number of the obverse banknotes is less than 100 sheets, the roller 12 is rotated to take out one sheet of banknote. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
