PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and its sensitivity adjusting method capable of setting proper image reading sensitivity by removing the influence of any abnormal pixel data detected due to any abnormal pixel or the like, and obtaining a satisfactory subject image by a specific image reading operation. SOLUTION: A controller 150 is provided with a function (reading sensitivity setting operation) for performing an operation (reading operation for adjusting sensitivity) for reading an image for adjusting sensitivity in an arbitrary timing prior to a specific image reading operation, and for optimally reading the subject image, for setting image reading sensitivity, and a function for setting the optimal image reading sensitivity by reading a prescribed image several number of times under different sensitivity conditions, and comparing pixel data (lightness data) obtained under each sensitivity condition, and detecting any abnormal pixel existing in a photo-sensor array (abnormal pixel detecting operation), and removing the influence of the pixels (abnormal pixel removing operation).
