PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing carbon by which localized growth of carbon is prevented by uniformly removing the carbon adhered to the whole of a carbonization chamber. SOLUTION: This method is to remove the carbon adhered to walls of the carbonization chamber 4 in a coke oven by blowing air or oxygen-added air. Two or more of species of blowing patterns determined by the number of blowing lances 1a, 1b, 1c, a blowing rate of flow and the like are predetermined and the blowing pattern is periodically or occasionally changed.
