PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous alga-proofing or mildew-proofing coating which can be applied on an exterior member of a building suffering from advanced biocontamination by propagation of algae or mildew economically in a few steps and in a short time thereby to easily repair a biocontaminated part, and a method for applying the same. SOLUTION: The aqueous alga-proofing or mildew-proofing coating for an exterior member of a building mainly composed of a synthetic resin latex is obtained by compounding 0.01-10 pts.wt. of an alga-proofing agent or a mildew- proofing agent and 0-5 pts.wt. of a thickener with 100 pts.wt. of the resin solid content, and adjusting the resin solid content concentration to 1-30 wt.%. The method for applying the aqueous alga-proofing or the mildew-proofing coating comprises substantially removing algae or mildew sticking to the surface of the exterior member of a building suffering from advanced biocontamination by propagation of algae or mildew, washing and drying the surface, and applying the aqueous alga-proofing or mildew-proofing coating on the surface thereby forming a transparent coating film.
