PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel yellow pigment which contains no chromium and no lead, is not polluting, gives high-color-saturation and beautiful yellow, and is excellent in acid resistance and weather resistance, and to provide a paint using it. SOLUTION: The surface of a substrate particle selected from the group consisting of metals, metal oxides and metal salts is covered with bismuth oxide.
