摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized thermoelectric conversion element and to provide a method of manufacturing the element. SOLUTION: This thermoelectric conversion element is provided with a first substrate having P-type elements 3 which are arranged longitudinally and transversely and composed of a P-type thermoelectric material, N-type elements 4 which are also arranged longitudinally and transversely and composed of an N-type thermoelectric material, and electrodes 5 each forming a P-N junction pair by bonding one pair of N and P types of elements to each other and a second substrate which is disposed to pinch the P- and N-type elements together with the first substrate and have electrodes 5. The longitudinal and transverse arrays of each type of elements are composed of the same type of elements. The ratio of the total cross-sectional area of the elements to that of the substrate is made larger by making the transverse distances X among the same type of elements different from the longitudinal distances Y among the elements. In addition, a degree of freedom is given to the outside dimension of the thermoelectric element by making the transverse lengths of the cross sections of the elements different from the longitudinal lengths of the cross sections.
