<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image processor with which input directions of images are efficiently detected from an image having much differentiation information to an image of a little differentiation information. <P>SOLUTION: In the image processing method for detecting the direction of the image which is inputted to a computer and includes a character region, first of all, the binary image of the inputted image is generated, the region of a predetermined size in the binary image is made one tile, and a tile image is generated by imparting a predetermined value for each tile. Next, a region in the binary image corresponding to a region in a circumscribed rectangle of linked equivalent pixel groups of in the tile image is extracted as the character region.
