PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a carrier having a smooth surface independently of the shape and surface state of the carrier core material by combining specified materials in a carrier for electrostatic latent image development, to obtain a carrier which prevents spending due to a fine particulate toner component and is excellent in durability, and to provide a carrier excellent in film strength and capable of negatively charging a toner over a prolonged period of time. SOLUTION: The carrier for electrostatic latent image development has a shape obtained by forming a film on the surface of a magnetic spherical fine powder, wherein the film comprises calcium alginate-metal oxide particles and a polyamide.
