PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seismometer for detecting and recording a seismic vibration which can record important detection data of seismic vibration of a main shock without erasing detection data based on seismic vibration recorded in the past. SOLUTION: In this seismometer 100, a storage medium 9 for recording the detection data based on the seismic vibration detected by a detection part 10 has a first recording area 9a and a second recording area 9b. The detection data are first successively recorded in the first recording area 9a, and when no recordable area is present in the first recording area 9a, only the detection data of a prescribed seismic vibration level or more are recorded in the second recording area 9b.
