The upper edge (7) of the drain (1) is provided with bores (22) which allow a grate (8) or cover (35) to be mounted in two or more different orientations. The drain comprises a concrete casing (2) with a cast iron upper edge set into it for holding a grate or cover. The upper edge contains at least two aligned bores for locating hinge pins (23, 24) for the grate or cover, one of the pins being fixed and the other being movable so that the grate or cover is pivotally mounted in the upper edge.
