PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an end face of an optical fiber to form a cleave face sloped with respect to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber on the end face of the optical fiber, and to provide an optical fiber amplifier using an optical fiber having the cut face formed by the above method. SOLUTION: The cleavage face is formed by scribing blemish 3 on the peripheral face of the optical fiber 1, with the blemish 3 sloped at a given angle from the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber, and then adding bending load in the longitudinal direction while nipping and twisting the scribed blemish 3.
