A composition comprises amlodipine maleate manufactured by mixing amlodipine maleate with at least one pharmaceutically acceptable auxiliary to form a mixture. A sample of the mixture is removed and investigated using nuclear magnetic resonance to obtain a sample analysis result which is compared with an appropriate reference standard for amlodipine aspartate or amlodipine maleamide to determine the quantity of amlodipine aspartate or amlodipine maleamide relative to amlodipine maleate. The mixture is then either filled in capsules or pressed to form tablets. Preferred Features: The comparison step comprises electronic retrieval of the reference standard analysis results and visual inspection of the sample analysis results and the reference standard analysis results.
