PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling vehicle having a function for preventing the drop of a platform due to wire breakage or the like during the movement of the traveling vehicle on a sloped portion without causing a problem with the movement of the traveling vehicle on a horizontal portion in a stair lifting apparatus in which the traveling vehicle running along rails is installed in a stair room of a multi-storied building. SOLUTION: This traveling vehicle stopping device comprises a towing force detection means 27 operated by detecting the lowering of a towing force due to the breakage of a running drive means and a brake means 23 operable interlockingly with a towing force detection means 27 and operating interlockingly with a tilt detection means 35 operated by detecting the tilt running of the running vehicle 4. The lowering of the towing force is detected, the tilt running is detected by the tilt detection means 25, the operating limitation of the brake means is released by the towing force detection means 27, and the traveling vehicle is stopped by the brake means 23 when these both means are operated.
