PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mass spectrometry device in which various ions are once collected and held in an ion holding part and then introduced into mass spectrometry part and peak resolution performance of the mass spectrum is improved. SOLUTION: A valve 47 capable of high speed opening and shutting is provided in the gas piping 48 for cooling gas that is used for increasing ion holding performance in the ion trap 4, and a control part 7 closes the valve 47 at ion introduction and ion discharge, and opens the valve 47 only at cooling operation. Therefore, at cooling operation, the ion orbit is converged by collision with gas molecules and steadily held in the ion trapping space 44, and on the other hand, at ion introduction, the density of the gas molecules decreases and ion can get in easily, and at ion discharge, the initial energy of ion running out is not lessened and the direction is aligned. Therefore, the mass separation of ion can be carried out appropriately and the peak resolution performance is improved, and analysis sensitivity is also improved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
