PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which enables low-light-flux light control at an illuminance ratio of a few percent or less of rated lighting by impressing a pulsed voltage to the discharge lamp, and prevents a visible flicker caused by the delicate change of the peak value of the pulsed voltage. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device comprises an inverter circuit 2 supplying a high frequency voltage to a discharge lamp 4, a light control circuit 6 controlling the light of the discharge lamp 4 by changing power supplied to the discharge lamp 4, and a pulse impression control circuit 7 periodically impressing the pulsed voltage to the discharge lamp 4. The impressing period of the pulsed voltage is synchronized with an integral multiple of the period of the high frequency voltage supplied to the discharge lamp 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
