PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit which records an annotation together with a photographed image, makes it easy to recognize which part of the image the annotation is related to and can input the annotation without any complicatedness. SOLUTION: A digital camera is provided with an automatic focusing control function for adjusting the focal point of a photographic lens (11) so as to make light from a photographing object form an image in a part of an area of an imaging device (12), and an area photographed in the reference area of the image pickup element to be used to determine an image forming state in a photographed image is defined as an annotation area to which an annotation is attached. The photographed image is associated with information showing the position and size of the annotation area and with an annotation inputted through a microphone (41) as voice to be recorded on a memory card (61). In reproducing the recorded image, the image is displayed on a display part (20), an image representing the annotation area is displayed while overlapping the image, and the annotation is outputted from a speaker (42) as voice.
