METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MEASURING DENSITY OF BONE USING FILL-FACTOR OF BONE

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for measuring density of bone using a fill-factor of bone are provided to enhance the accuracy of bone density by utilizing an existing X-ray device. CONSTITUTION: A digital X-ray image is generated(410). An interest region image is extracted from the digital X-ray image of an arbitrary body of a testee(415). A cross gray level profile corresponding to the n-th column of the interest region image is generated(420). A bone region is identified from a cross gray level profile. A continuous flow function is generated from the remaining region except for a bone region. A difference between the cross gray level profile and the continuous flow function is produced. A sponge bone region is identified and a fitting function is generated by using a produced difference value. A graph area of the fitting function corresponding to the n-th column and a graph area of sequential difference values are produced. A fill-factor of bone is produced by using the graph area of the fitting function and the graph area of the sequential difference values(425). Bone density corresponding to the fill-factor of bone is produced by using a bone density conversion formula(430).
