PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain smooth photographing of a still picture without sacrificing a moving picture during photographing. SOLUTION: A digital still camera starts photographing of a moving picture in a moving picture/still picture photographing mode by depressing a shutter switch and terminates photographing of the moving picture by again depressing the shutter switch (steps 100 to 110). Further, the digital camera photographs a still picture by depressing the shutter switch for a prescribed time or over during photographing of the moving picture (steps 120 to 126). In this case, the moving picture photographing is temporarily interrupted, a supplement image in accordance with a still picture photographing time is generated and the still picture photographing is terminated to restart the moving picture photographing (steps 108, 112, and 114).
