PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization apparatus with which wastes such as animal and plant residues and garbage can be made utilizable as a soil improvement material by drying, volume reduction and carbonization of the same. SOLUTION: An object to be treated is introduced into a rotating inner furnace 1 from an inlet port 12 thereof. A combustion furnace is heated to an inner temperature of 1,500°C with a burner 4 located at the lower part of an outer furnace 2 at the outside of the inner furnace. A spiral smoke passage 5 is provided on the outer wall of the inner furnace to heat the inside of the inner furnace to a temperature of 900°C-1,200°C. Four agitation prongs 3 provided on the inner wall of the inner furnace uniformly agitate and heat the object to be treated. Steam, water gas, odor and the like are forcefully sucked with a blower 6 through a suction pipe on a rotating shaft of the inner furnace and sent to the combustion furnace to be reburned with a flame of the burner to remove dioxin, odor, etc. Since the whole inner furnace is uniformly heated, the treatment can be completed in a short time. When the carbonization is completed, the apparatus is automatically stopped with an outlet port 12 directed downward with a sensor 11. For discharging the treated object, an electric jack 10 goes up to tilt the apparatus at an inclination of 37 degrees forward, destroying the angle of repose of the treated object to allow the treated object to be discharged flowing from the outlet port 12.
