PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system which provides route guidance according to current road conditions and to improve user's convenience. SOLUTION: The navigation system comprises a map data input device 25 which reads map data from a storage medium provided by a service provider in advance and an additional map data storage unit 29a which stores additional map data. Based on a signal outputted from a position detector 21, a travelling route of a vehicle is recorded, and the record is stored in the additional map data storage unit 29a as a shape of road. This configuration enables the system to, for example, conduct route guidance reflecting information on a newly opened road, as soon as a user notices it, thereby improving user's convenience.
