PURPOSE: A circuit for generating the resolution mode signal for use in a liquid crystal display device is provided to supply a uniform resolution mode signal by resetting the count result without affecting the irregular timing at the multi-sink mode. CONSTITUTION: A circuit for generating the resolution mode signal for use in a liquid crystal display device includes a clock count unit(1), a synchronous signal counter(2), a first and a second registers(3,4), a pair of mode change detectors(5,6), a pair of reset units(7,8) and a code generation unit(9). The clock count unit counts one period of horizontal synchronization signal as a clock signal and outputs the result as a code. The synchronous signal counter counts one period of vertical synchronization signal as a horizontal synchronization signal and outputs the result as a code. The first and the second registers maintain the outputs of the clock counter and the synchronization signal counter. The reset units reset the corresponding register when the mode is changed from the mode change signal outputted from each register. And, the code generation unit generates codes representing the resolution mode from the code outputted from each register.
