PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering gear for a vehicle capable of securely eliminating, in the following turning on operation of a system, the displacement of the mid point of a steering member produced when the system is turned off. SOLUTION: A control device 18 drivingly rotates the body 12a of a rotating angle detection device 12 at least one rotation by a detection actuator 17 when the system of a steering gear for a vehicle is started. Second and fourth elements 32 and 34 as a detection part are rotated integrally with the body 12a to detect the positions of first and third elements 31 and 33 as corresponding sensor elements. A first element 31 can be rotated integrally with the output 11 of a speed reducer 9. The third element 33 is fixed to a body 13a as the fixed part of an actuator 13 for reaction. Then the displacement of the first element 31 corresponding to the mid point position of the steering member 1 from the position of the third element 33 corresponding to an absolute mid position is detected.
