PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a wasteful consumption of ink and time, which are required for recovery operations, by avoiding the unnecessary recovery operations. SOLUTION: Cap open time, when a cap is separated from a surface of an ejection port so as to keep the ejection port in an open state, is accurately measured, and control is exercised so that the recovery operations corresponding to the cap open time can be performed when the cap is separated from the surface of the ejection port when powered up.
