PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval method and device for allowing a user to automatically determine the end form and conjugated form of targeted archaic data when the end form of the targeted archaic data exists in an archaic word dictionary even when the targeted archaic data are a conjugated form, and to simultaneously find out information necessary for the targeted archaic data in the archaic word dictionary. SOLUTION: The end form and conjugated form of character data inputted by an external input means are determined, and whether or not archaic word dictionary data stored in a data memory are character data corresponding to the end form and conjugated from of the character data inputted from the external input means is collated, and when the archaic word dictionary data stored in the data memory are the end form corresponding to the conjugated form of the character data inputted from the external input means, the dictionary data are decided as a word being the target of retrieval.
