PHASE-CONTRAST FILM, METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME, POLARIZING PLATE, AND DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase-contrast film which ensures little occurrence of spots recognized as unevenness in retardation with age and can diminish edge voids even when used in a display device with a large screen or used under high temperature and high humidity conditions, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same, a polarizing plate and a display device. SOLUTION: The phase-contrast film has at least one amorphous metal compound layer formed by plasma treatment in a nitrogen-base atmosphere under a pressure close to or higher than atmospheric pressure on at least one surface of a substrate directly or by way of another layer, a retardation value (Ro value) in an inward direction is 20-200 nm, and a retardation value (Rt value) in a film thickness direction is 70-300 nm.
