PURPOSE: A safety device of a power steering system is provided to improve the safety of a vehicle and to meet the related regulations by supplying renewable hydraulic pressure and making a power steering system operate normally when a hydraulic pressure supply unit has a trouble. CONSTITUTION: A safety device of a power steering system comprises a hydraulic retarder(1), an emergency supply conduit pipe(3) for supplying the hydraulic pressure generated from the hydraulic retarder to a power cylinder of a power steering system, a valve unit for controlling the communication state of the emergency conduit pipe, a pressure sensor(7) for measuring the hydraulic pressure supplied to the power cylinder from a power steering pump(5), a controller(9) for controlling the valve unit with response to the signal of the pressure sensor, and a change-over valve(11) for selectively supplying the hydraulic pressure from the emergency supply conduit pipe and the hydraulic pressure from the power steering pump to the power cylinder.
