PURPOSE: A de-interlacing method, an apparatus, a video decoder and reproducing apparatus thereof are provided to make it possible to improve interpolation performance by easily and effectively detecting an edge located in a near-horizontal direction without increasing calculation amount. CONSTITUTION: A de-interlacing method is performed by converting an interlaced video signal into a progressive video signal. An interpolation direction is determined based on a plurality of left and right pixels in left and right pixel columns located at left and right sides of pixel, wherein the pixel is to be interpolated(701). An interpolated pixel value is obtained by performing an interpolation process in a determined interpolation direction(702).
