PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform cleaning of the surfaces of respective pohotorecptor drums even if paper for wiping out is relatively small in size, like, for example, the A4 size, in a tandem type image forming apparatus provided with four pohotorecptor drums side by side. SOLUTION: Only the first photoreceptor drum 31C is rotated in the state of stopping paper 11 in contact with the first photoreceptor drum 31C on an upstream side and the soil on the surface is wiped away by the paper 11. Next, only the second photoreceptor drum 31M is rotated in the state of stopping the paper 11 in contact with the second photoreceptor drum 31M and the soil on the surface is wiped away by the paper 11. In succession, the soil on the surfaces is wiped away in the similar manner relating to the third photoreceptor drum 31Y and the fourth photoreceptor drum 31B as well.
