PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor shaft material for a superconducting rotating electric machine having high strength, toughness and ferromagnetic property at a very low temperature, and to promote higher output, miniaturization and lighter weight of the superconducting rotating electric machine. SOLUTION: The rotor shaft material is made of ferromagnetic Fe alloy comprising, in weight %, C by 0.15% or less, Si by 0.20% or less, Mn by 0.50% or less, Ni by 10-16% , Mo by 0.1-2.8%, Ti by 0.1-0.5%, and Al by 0.003-0.150%, with the remaining portion substantially having the composition of Fe. Since the rotating electric machine uses ferromagnetic Fe alloy for the material of rotor shaft of the superconducting rotating electric machine, the rotating electric machine is reduced in size and weight without increasing the magnetomotive force of a field coil.
