PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil-based ink composition for a ball point pen that can give light and smooth drawing feeling with no spot or stain on the paper, when the ball-point pen is filled with the ink and lines are drawn with no occurrence of paper oozing and striking through. SOLUTION: This oil-based ink composition for a ball point pen comprises a coloring agent, an organic solvent and a copolymer from acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and acrylic ester represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>is a 1-12C alkyl) or methacrylic ester represented by general formula (2) (wherein R<SB>2</SB>is a 1-12C alkyl) and has an ink viscosity of 10 to 100 mPa s (20°C) at a shear rate of 3.84 S<SP>-1</SP>and a shear-thinning index of 0.5 to 0.99.
