PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome such problems that the appearance of a thin spot on a recorded image and a reduction in the recordable number of pieces of paper are caused because an ink shortage is caused during printing, when much ink is consumed for operations except recording operations such as suction recovery processing and pre-ejection processing so as to maintain image quality, in the case where only a small quantity of ink remains in an ink tank. SOLUTION: The quantity of the ink remaining in the ink tank, which is set in a recording head 3 for performing the recording operations by ejecting the ink depending on printing data, is controlled, and standby-time of the recording head 3 after the start of the printing is set. The ink from the recording head 3 is ejected with predetermined timing, so that operations (recovery of suction and pre-ejection) for cleaning the recording head 3 can be performed. When the quantity of the ink remaining in the ink tank reaches a fixed value or below, the quantity of the ink ejected during the cleaning operations is reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
