PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for initially charging a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which can shorten an initial charging time without deteriorating battery characteristics. SOLUTION: The method for initially charging a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte includes a first charging step of performing charging in the range of 90-110% of a rated capacity, a step of pausing, and a second charging step of performing charging in the range of 10-30% of the rated capacity.
