PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery capable of attaining excellent security by suppressing a rapid temperature rise of a battery even in an unusual situation that a battery body is deformed by external pressure. SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery has an oppositely disposed positive electrode 11 and a negative electrode 12, a separator 13 disposed between the positive and negative electrodes 11, 12 and an electrolyte. Collector exposing parts 11c, 12c of a positive collector 11a and a negative collector 12a are disposed so as to face each other through the separator 13. The separator 13 has a plurality of openings for short-circuiting the collector exposing parts 11c, 12c of the positive and negative electrodes between the exposing parts 11c, 12c Thereby, the exposing parts 11c, 12c with small electric resistances can surely generate an internal short-circuit between each other prior to the generation of the internal short-circuit accompanied by the rapid temperature rise.
