PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a manual speed change mode into an automatic speed change mode based on external information of a vehicle to sufficiently reflect the intention of a driver. SOLUTION: This vehicle control device executes a program including a step S106 to change an automatic transmission into the manual shift mode in the automatic shift mode (S102:YES) when a changing demand into the manual shift mode is detected (S104:YES), a step S108 to execute speed change control in the manual shift mode, a step S110 to obtain external information from devices of a driving assisting part, a step S112 to determine restoration conditions to the automatic shift mode based on external information, and a step S116 to change the automatic transmission into the automatic shift mode when the restoration conditions to the automatic shift mode are satisfied (S114:YES).
