PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus having a main frame 21 having a high rigidity structure for supporting a carriage 5 or the like. SOLUTION: T-shaped engagement pawls 61 are upwardly and integrally formed on the upper end faces of a pair of side plates 21a of an open-top box-shaped main frame 21 formed by stamping and bending a metal flat plate. The engagement pawls 61 are inserted into engagement holes provided in the horizontal plate part of a first guide member 22 and a second guide member 23. Then, the first and the second guide members 22 and 23 are firmly assembled by twisting caulking so as to produce a high-rigidity part. Accordingly, the vertical position of first slide surfaces 51 and 52 with respect to the carriage 5 on the upper surfaces of the first and the second guide members 22 and 23 and the parallelism of the vertical guiding part 52 of the second guide member 23 in the main scanning direction can be precisely defined, and the movement posture of the carriage 5 in the main scanning direction can be constantly maintained.
