SOLUTION: A navigation system 1 switches the position measuring precision of the receiver 2 for the satellite navigation to the high precision, when own vehicle approaches a destination, when traveling on a road not described in map information, when an intersection branched at an acute angle exists within a prescribed distance, when traveling on a narrow street, when traveling on closely adjacent parallel roads, when a self-contained sensor is calibrated, or the like, and switches the position measuring precision of the receiver 2 for the satellite navigation to the lower precision, in the case other than those. A power supply and an operation for the receiver 2 for the satellite navigation required only for an operation for the high-precision position measurement are prohibited, when measuring the position at the low precision by the receiver 2 for the satellite navigation.
