PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device capable of realizing the complete prevention of void to transfer paper. SOLUTION: The transfer paper is held in a nip area N by a transfer belt 5 wound round a driving roller 2 and a driven roller 3 and freely moving by the driving roller 2, and a photoreceptor drum 1 carrying a toner image, and the photoreceptor drum 1 and the transfer belt 5 are driven, then transfer bias from a high voltage power source 6 is applied to the transfer belt 5 from a bias roller 7. The high voltage power source 6 is controlled by a control unit 10 so that a current Iout flowing in the photoreceptor drum 1 out of a current Ia outputted from the high voltage power source 6 may be a set target value. The toner image on the photoreceptor drum 1 is transferred to the transfer paper. A voltage drop roller 8 disposed in contact with the transfer belt 5 in the vicinity on the upstream side of the nip area N drops the potential of the transfer belt 5 at the contact position, whereby pre-discharge just before the nip area N is hindered, and the occurrence of the void that the toner image transferred to the transfer paper is retransferred to the photoreceptor drum 1 is prevented.
