PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of satisfactorily reading images without causing changes in the speed of a scanner due to the roughness of a rail-member face which is in contact with a spherical shoe rolling while moving together with a second scanner scanning to read the images. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus that reads the images of a document by exposing/scanning the document with the scanner that has an optical system element, at least one spherical shoe 5 is disposed between at least the one scanner 1 and the rail member 13 supporting the scanner 1.
