PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video playback apparatus capable of improving operability, when the user selects the resolution which can be handled by a display unit. SOLUTION: The video playback apparatus includes an operation indicator 15, by which the resolution of an input video data can be set; an HDMI converter 13 for outputting a video data onto a connected display unit 2; a memory 16 for storing a convertible resolution type in the externally input video data; and a system control unit 14 which reads out the resolution type which can be processed in the display unit 2, collates the resolution type stored in the memory 16 with the readout resolution type, and displays only the matching resolution type for guidance.
