METHOD FOR DEBROMINATING PLASTIC CONTAINING BROMINE COMPOUND

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for efficiently removing a brome compound from a plastic containing a bromine compound as a flame retardant, especially a styrene-based plastic. SOLUTION: The method for debrominating a plastic containing a bromine compound comprises (1) a process for heating and melting the plastic containing the bromine compound, (2) a process for bringing the molten plastic containing the bromine compound into contact with water vapor in the presence of a hydrogenating agent to debrominate the plastic and (3) a process for recovering the debrominated plastic.
