According to one embodiment of the invention, a switching shaft (11) comprising molded-on cams (17) or cam disks (15) can be created for a rotary switch. A reinforcement rib (25) which extends close to the ends of the switching shaft is provided on the outside of the switching shaft (11). Said reinforcement rib (25) is able to absorb tensile stress caused especially in the central area of the switching shaft (11) by pressure generated by switching contacts (19), allowing bending of the switching shaft (11) to be prevented.
