PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower a maximum contact pressure on a raceway surface by increasing a load capacity without lowering the rigidity of a retainer. SOLUTION: This tapered roller bearing 1 comprises an inner ring 2, an outer ring 3, a plurality of tapered rollers 4 rollingly disposed between the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3, and the retainer 5 circumferentially holding the tapered rollers 4 thereon at specified intervals. A roller factor äγ = (quantity of rollers × averaged diameter of rollers)/(π × PCD)} is increased more than 0.94. At least one of the inner ring 2, the outer ring 3, and the tapered rollers 4 comprises a nitrogen-enriched layer.
