PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus maintaining a dynamic range by relatively increasing the capacitance of a PD without increasing the capacitance of an FD in response to the tendency of finer pixels. SOLUTION: Each pixel of an imaging face of an imaging element includes: the PD; the FD; a transfer transistor; a reset transistor; an amplification transistor; and a row selection transistor. The PD and the FD are formed such that the capacitance C<SB>PD</SB>of the PD is greater than the capacitance C<SB>FD</SB>of the FD. When electric charges stored in the PD are a first FD electric charge amount Q<SB>FMAX1</SB>or below, a light receiving amount is recognized on the basis of the capacitance C<SB>FD</SB>of the FD. When electric charges stored in the FD are the first FD electric charge amount Q<SB>FMAX1</SB>or over, the light receiving amount is recognized on the basis of the capacitance C<SB>FD</SB>of the FD and the capacitance C<SB>PD</SB>of the PD.
