PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To auditorily recognize the sender, contents, etc., of a chat mail without looking at a display screen when the chat mail is received. SOLUTION: When a chat mail reception part 1 receives the chat mail, a control part 11 reads sound data of a termination sound of each member designated with chat member management data in a data storage part 4 out of a data storage part 9 and supplies the sound data to a termination sound generation part 5. When text read-aloud function ON specification is present in the chat member management data, a read-aloud text generation part 6 is made to generate a text to be read aloud. Then display of the received chat mail is indicated to a display screen control part 2 to display it at a display part 3 and after the termination sound generated by the termination sound generation part 5 is sent out of a speaker 9 through an audio output part 8 for a specified time, the text to be read aloud is supplied to a speech synthesis part 7 and converted into an audio signal, which is sent out of the speaker 9 through the audio output part 8.
